Smashbox photo finish primer...

To photo finish or to not photo finish?

So my first beauty review is going to be on the Smashbox photo finish primer. This is a clear gel like formula which is supposed to increase the longevity of your foundation whilst reducing fine lines and minimise the appearance of pores. This product is also oil free. Currently, it retails at £25 on the smashbox website.

Reason I brought this
I brought this primer because my skin type is oily. I've heard great reviews on how this makes your foundation apply flawlessly even with acne and because it's oil free, I decided to spend the £25 to see if it really did keep my making looking 'photo finished'

Good points
If you are looking for a primer to smooth you skin before applying foundation or concealer, this is a really nice base to get your skin ready for a smooth application. Once set on the face for a few seconds, this primer is weightless, perfect for those who are using a heavy coverage foundation. I apply primer using my finger tips but others will use a brush but it should still even out and feel weightless on the skin, a little goes along way! Also, the packaging is very functional as it's a great size for travelling. Because of the flexibility the tube offers, you can get a precise amount of product out of the tube by using the squeezable applicator on the tube. Also, you can see the amount of product you have used from the clear covering which for me, is a bonus so I know when to slow down on the use once getting close to finishing.

Bad points
As I have oily skin, I was told this primer would be great at prolonging the wear of my foundation by controlling the oil. However, this was not the case. After approximately 3 hours, I was finding myself having to re powder my face mainly on my T zone areas as the shine from the oil produced was coming through quite noticeable. Even though this is said to be oil free, for me it applies greasy to the skin but still dries to a standard in which in happy to apply foundation on to. Because I spent a big £25 on this primer, I do still use this but only on days where I don't go out of the house or only going out for a few hours.

Overall
Personally, for someone who has oily skin, I will not be repurchasing this product once finished. I give this product a 6/10 as it isn't the worst primer I've used but it certainly isn't the best. It made my foundation apply smoothly but didn't prolong the wear of my foundation like it said. For people who have dry/normal skin, I would 100% recommend you pay the £25 as I feel this primer would be very beneficial and work better for you.
