The balm - Mary Lou Manizer highlighter |
Are you Mary-Lou Manized?
This is the Balm's Mary-Lou Manizer face highlighter. This comes with 8.5g of product and retails for $24 dollars, £16.54 pounds from the balm website. I ordered mine from amazon at a cheaper price which I would advise.
Reason for purchasing
I brought this product because of how good it looked on people on pictures, videos etc and wanted to try it on myself. This was the first highlighter I've ever owned as I never really was into a glowly look. However, I wanted to give it a go so thought that I'd try this out because of the good reviews and looks of this product
Good points
The balm offers some amazing packaged products! The names of the products are all very creative and unique to that product. This is what I like about the packaging of this. It's compact, easy to use with a compact mirror inside and the front look of the packaging is so sweet with a unique name which suits around the product. This highlighter gives you a subtle look with the use to build up the highlight on the face. This isn't an overwhelming highlight. Some highlighters look so crazy that it doesn't look natural on the face. However you can really get a nice looking highlight for the cheekbones, centre of the nose, cupids bow etc without it looking heavy and too much. This highlighter isn't dusty either. I've tried more highlighters since using this and others came out dusty when applying of the face, leaving me with 'fall out' from the brush because of how dusty the product was. I apply my highlight with a fan brush so I can really fan out the highlight up the cheekbones and on my cupids bow. You could also use your fingers, or a angled brush as other recommendations. I did find this highlighter looked better when applied on a matte foundation compared to others? If you have tried this have you found this to be the case too? Let me know
Bad points
Inside the product |
If i'm honest, I was disappointed by this product. It looked so amazing on other people but didn't look as good when I applied this. My first thoughts was that my skin tone was too light for the highlight but others with paler skin than me used this and it looked fine. I did leave this highlight for a while and move on to try others but after going back to the product a few months later, I did learn to love it. In my opinion (don't know if this applies to anyone else) I had to apply quite a lot of product so the highlight would show up enough to be seen. Yes, It did look subtle after still applying quite a lot of product but I felt like it made my face feel cakey in those places. This highlight doesn't stay highlighted on my face all day either, even when set with a setting spray. This was quite frustrating for me because even though I paid a cheaper price of £12.99, I still thought this was expensive for how long it wore on my skin. I would say at least 2 hours and then the highlight would become invisible on my skin.
Overall
I'm so 50/50 about this highlight. I love using it sometimes and then others I prefer to use something different because of it not working for me. I'd give this product a 6.5/10. I think this highlighter would look amazing on darker skin tones due to the colouration of this product. Whether it's because I have oily skin the highlight became invisible? Who knows
If you have tried this product, please let me know your thoughts on this because I'm so interested to know how it lasted for others. Also, if you have any recommendations on highlighters that I should try please let me know. If you liked the post don't forget to go follow me and check out my bloglovin page! Thanks x
